Hi really need your help! 3inchx8inch joists @ 350mm centres ..18mm chipboard good for tilesSat, 02 Jan 2021 12:45:11 +0000
Refurb project. joists replaced, they aren’t small at 3inchx8 inch @ 350mm centers. joists coveredwith 18mm tongue and grove chipboard.
We are looking to cover 18mm chip with ditra mat or backer board. My question will the 18mm chipboard be ok with tiles. The entire flat will have tiles including the wet room.
What would you go for ditra or backer taking into consideration the 18mm ply.
18mm chipboard was picked, as it had the acoustic the membrane on the...

First our tiler recommended we disregard our Durabase and tile directly onto our chipboard subfloor even though they creaked. The night before the job he said he'd check for movement and apply if necessary for free. On the day he only used PVA on the subfloor and stuck the Durabase directly onto it. Is this normal practice?
We chose a white grout since our tiles where brilliant...

I have recently finished installing a mini metro tile (150x75) backsplash in my kitchen. I am looking for the neatest way to finish with silicon where the tile meets the worktop.
I do have a silicone kit with the special attachment for bevelled tiles but it doesn’t finish the job as well as I would like. Any ideas or guidance would be much welcomed.
Thank you in advance.

I want to floor tile a basement.
The floor is a screed layer.
We want to stop moisture from the ground rising to the top of the screed and damaging the tiles and tile adhesive.
So we have bought a bitumen based waterproof liquid applied membrane to paint onto the screed.
Has anyone tiled over this stuff?
Or is tiling onto the screed enough to create a water proof barrier?

/email@example.com (HugeWesty)HugeWestyHi, I'm having a row of bathroom tiles installed (haven't got enough for full refurb). I will scrape the old adhesive before the tiler comes. I have 3 questions that I'd appreciate thoughts on.
1. Should I apply Mapei G primer the day before the tiler? (I have some left over from floor work). I am concerned the old render is very, very dry. When I had plastering done on an old render wall - it dried super quick and cracked.
2. Also I was going to get quick set adhesive and...

Im sealing the base of my toilet pan and stupidly forgot to clean it first. So I have put a thin bead under the pan (it needed shimming cos floor is a tad uneven). Now I want to clean with meth spirit and do the proper bead. My questions are:
1. Will this be ok or will the spirit breakdown the existing bead? Should I remove that first?
2. How long do you wait for the spirit to evaporate before siliconing?
Thanks!]]>2TilesFri, 11 Dec 2020 16:44:35 +0000

We have employed a tiler to do our bathroom and floor tiles. We bought the tiles ourselves from a tile supplier. We measured the room prior to getting the tiles. When the tiler turned up we asked him if there were enough tiles. He looked briefly at the boxes and said yes.
When the day came to starting the job, he said that there were not enough tiles for the floor. Frustratingly, we went and bought 3 more packs on his advice (£50 each). The tiler delayed until the extra tiles...

I am just looking for some advice or recommendations about using and sourcing epoxy resin.
Currently we have large light grey porcelain tiles down throughout our house but they were laid around 10mm apart at joints. We put light grey BAL grout down, sealed it all but within a couple of weeks the high traffic areas (pretty much it all) went a dark brown colour. I've replaced it twice now in the last year or so and every time it does the same thing.
To be honest we just want to RIP it...
